ABOUT KG
Born from my Mother's womb and raised in my skin in Houston, Texas, I was brought into this world dreaming with my eyes open. In May 2011, I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Houston. Also, I am one of many in the Generation X, which is the grooving grandchild of a vibration.
Creating art for me is like standing in a dark closet filled with post-it notes swirling around and trying to catch at least one of them. The moment it's in possession the light comes on but there's a limited amount of time to read and execute what's on it before the closet gets dark again. I take those mental thoughts and extract the highest emotions from each to merge them into something visual that always feels like the moment the post-it note is finally caught in midair. My infatuation with optical illusions provoked me into playing with geometric optical space on a flat surface. The tactfulness from it drew me in to want to touch the surface.
My paintings are done by hand in a perfectly imperfect manner. My strive for perfection will not allow me to not measure each line and shape to a precise size that balances off one another. Colors are intentionally placed next to each other that blend together or cause one pop out more to trick the brain and eyes into seeing something that is not there. Within my paintings, you will see a variety of play on space, movement, and mood.As precise as I try to make it, I always leave some areas imperfect like life.
